lost between the greys

I love shooting black and white film. There is something lovely about stripping away the colour so all that you are left with is shadow and highlight... which I guess is photography at its purest.

It's been a particularly grey and wet week here in Melbourne and I haven't really had a chance to get out and shoot anything new. This week's 52 Photos Project prompt is 'Black & White'. I've taken it as an opportunity to look through my archives and see some of my pictures in a different way. It's strange how a little bit of space and a fresh eye makes a previously discarded image seem completely right at this moment in time.

  1. Love love these Helen- you knowhow obsessed I am with black and white film!! What did you use here? {and the weather has been sunny and glorious here in Aucks, until yesterday when it turned feral, so I hope you haven't sent the weather over here ;)}

    1. Thanks Mary! The 1st shot is with my Nikon FM2 using Rollie 400 and the other 2 are from my Holga (I can't remember which 120 film it was). Hopefully it gets sunny for you soon!

    Your comments are so timely! I've been thinking about digging out my Pentax K1000 from many (and I mean many!!) years ago and shoot some film. Your point about shadow and highlight confirmed that I must do this! Especially love the last one, I can just feel the passing of the time sitting at that window!

    Grey wet weather was made for b&w shots - these are stunning! I especially love the trees & the windowsill.
